"Give them bread and circuses and they will never revolt" ~ Juvenal

Wise words by the last great Roman satirist, Juvenal (c. 55 – 127 AD) who became famous for his savage wit and biting descriptions of life in Rome.

Roman politicians passed laws in 140 CE to keep the votes of poorer citizens, by introducing a grain dole, giving out cheap food and entertainment, "bread and circuses", became the most effective way to rise to power.

It seems like things have not changed since then. Comforts and entertainment play a significant role in distracting us from the important work that we need to do on Earth. Planet Earth in its final leg of a transition towards to become a greater or lesser civilisation. The choice is ours. What we do today, determines our tomorrow. Think about that.

It's not that comforts and entertainment are bad. They play a temporal part in bringing us joy. They should not rule our lives. They are not the be all and end of for joy and peace that is everlasting.

The Pandemic (or Plandemic) has had its merits in that way. We have woken up to what is really important.

Do I really need to go to Bar for a drink every night? Do I really need to splurge 20,000 (or more) on a Berkin bag? Do I really need Hollywood to please my senses with some brash or over-the-top entertainment that "dumb" us down rather than awaken us? Not all are bad, of course. I relish and learn so much through some of the great screen productions that teach, awaken and enlighten and hold some hidden truths. The Matrix, Patriot Games, Prometheus, V for Vendetta, Life is Beautiful and more.

Something to think about you start your day.
